Ramires Biography

A midfielder who joined Chelsea in August 2010 from Benfica. After a slow start he became one of the Blues’ better performers during the 2010-11 season, notching his first goal for the club at Bolton in January 2011.

Under Andre Villas-Boas and latterly Roberto Di Matteo in 2011-12, the Brazilian added more goals to his game in an attacking right-wing role, notably at Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final and also against Liverpool in the FA Cup final. An athletic, box-to-box player, Ramires began his club career at Joinville in Brazil before making his name at Cruzeiro.

In 2009 he moved to Europe, signing for Benfica where he was a key member of the team that won the domestic title in 2009-10 before his move to Stamford Bridge.

Ramires made his debut for Brazil in May 2009 and featured at the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.
