Dennis Wise's days as executive director of football at Newcastle could be numbered as owner Mike Ashley continues building for the future.[LNB]Reports suggest former Millwall and Leeds boss Wise is set for the axe as Ashley looks to bring in either Alan Shearer or Steve Bruce as manager in the summer.[LNB]Neither of them would consider taking over with Wise in situ and feel his £1.2m a year salary would be better spent elsewhere.[LNB] Protests: Newcastle fans have never taken to Dennis Wise[LNB]Shearer is a Toon legend and his 206 goals is a club record while Geordie Bruce was almost appointed manager five years but could not agree terms. Wise[LNB]And Frank Gilmour, who is the chairman of the Independent Newcastle United Supporters' Association, told the Daily Express: 'I'd be delighted if Mike Ashley cut Dennis Wise adrift and I'm sure all Newcastle fans would feel the same as well.[LNB] 'He is a problem. He's the reason Kevin Keegan left. Ashley stuck by Wise and lost Kevin Keegan, and I can guarantee that Newcastle would not be in the situation we are now had Keegan not left.'[LNB]However, although the Magpies failed with last-day transfer window attempts to land MIchael Johnson and Darren Bent, the Mirror reports that Wise will keep his job after the club made a window profit of £8m.[LNB]Newcastle signed Kevin Nolan, Ryan Taylor and Peter Lovenkrands for a combined total of £5m but sold Shay Given and Charles N'Zogbia for £13.5m, figures that could add to a bit more time in the Magpies boardroom for London-based Wise.[LNB][LNB] [LNB] [LNB]
