The striker has completed his move to Wigan leaving Sousa with a large hole to fill ahead of the new season.
But the Portuguese coach is prepared to get the best deal possible for the Swans and will not pay over the odds for a replacement.
"We know what players we want, but we want a good deal for the club and the squad," he told the South Wales Evening Post.
"I have identified the target we want and we are dealing not only with one player. You need to bring something different to the squad and we need the right balance.
"We are looking for specific players. Some of them cost a lot of money, but we can't spend that. We won't spend crazy money, I have no doubts about that."
