Ipswich Town have offered former Liverpool academy player Shane O'Connor a one-year deal at the club after he impressed on trial.
The 19-year-old Irishman - who can play in defence or midfield - has featured in two recent pre-season friendlies.
Speaking after Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Cork City manager Roy Keane said: "He'll say he is a midfielder but good players will play in any position.
"What he has got, which is vital for any player, is enthusiasm."
Keane said he was less than happy with his team's performance on his return to his hometown: "I thought we started badly and gradually got worse.
"One or two players over the next few days will obviously fall by the wayside, that's only natural as there are 20 players and I need to start nailing down a bit.
"That wasn't acceptable today, some players had another opportunity to impress me and they didn't take that so certainly some will be running out of chances."
Ipswich's next pre-season friendly is away to Southend United on Wednesday [22 June].
