Wimbledon 2009: Daily preview

Worth watching on the show courts: Roger Federer against Taipei's Yen-Hsun Lu on Centre Court. This is probably the only time in Federer's career that you could possibly accuse him of being a stand-in. [LNB]It should have been Rafa Nadal, last summer's champion, playing the first match on the first Monday of the tournament, but the Majorcan withdrew because of his knees, so the Centre Court crowd are going to have to 'make do' with Federer, a five-time champion here and the greatest tennis player of all time, opening the new-look Centre Court with its retractable roof. [LNB]Worth watching on the outside courts: Michelle Larcher de Brito against Zara Zakopalova on Court 17. This is one for the ears rather than the eyes. Larcher de Brito, arguably the noisiest player in the history of women's tennis, is to make her first appearance at Wimbledon, and it is going to be loud. Very loud. 'Grunt-ometers' at the ready. [LNB]Brit of the day: Laura Robson, 15, is to become the youngest British player of the modern, professional era when she plays Daniela Hantuchova, of Slovakia, on Court Two. Robson, who lives close to the All England Club, will also be the youngest competitor at Wimbledon since Martina Hingis in 1995. [LNB]Jennifer Capriati and Andy Murray have both suggested that Robson should go out there and enjoy every moment of playing in the tournament proper for the first time, but Hantuchova, a former world No 5 and Wimbledon quarter-finalist, will be trying to make this as unpleasant as possible for the Londoner. [LNB]Is the Centre Court roof going to be used today? The forecast would suggest not. [LNB]
