Player Details

Cliff Byrne is an experienced Scunthorpe United defender. He is their longest-serving player, and also the club captain. Resolute and dependable, Cliff began his career as a trainee with Sunderland, initially joining the Iron on loan in November 2002.  He returned to Glanford Park on a more permanent basis the following summer. Comfortable at either right back or centre half, he has made over 200 appearances for the club.  A back injury restricted Cliff's appearance total to some extent in 2010-11, but the man capped at U21 by Ireland still managed to score a memorable volleyed goal for Scunthorpe in their 2-0 away victory over Watford.
