Boss Darren Ferguson was left with little positives to say after seeing his Preston North End side thrashed 4-1 at home by Barnsley.

The Lilywhites had won their previous two Championship games, but were torn apart by the Tykes on a cold Tuesday evening.

Ferguson said: "Fair credit to Barnsley, they played very well. Sometimes you have to hold your hands up, they thoroughly deserved the win.

"For whatever reason, I don't know if it's psychological and I know it's been a pattern, we just don't start games well. We were sloppy in possession and Barnsley played very well on the night.

"The goals we conceded were awful. They were poor goals and no matter how you play, you cannot concede four goals, especially at home."
