Preston confirmed their League One status for next season after they won for only the third time in Graham Westley's reign in what turned out to be one of their most impressive performances in recent times.
Due to the recent amount of games, Westley, changed the starting line up to negate any effects of tiredness from the players. Gray played at right back whilst Parry continued on the left. Hume returned up front with Mayor playing out on the left.
Huddersfield have been stuttering of late and looked nothing like the side that defeated Preston earlier in the season in West Yorkshire. Preston's stron defnsive unit managed to restrict the visitors.
The Whites almost took the lead in the first half when Ehmer's shot found it's way through a number of bodies only to rebound off the post and then away to safety. With Mayor out wide and Coutts playing on the right, Hume received more service alongside Holroyd.
Preston looked brighter and certainly much improved from only a few weeks ago. Mayor was deservedly given the man of the match award for twisting and turning the Huddersfield defence on more than one occassion.
Shortly after the start of the second half around 100 or so Huddersfield fans were escorted belatedly into the ground by the police. The first thing they saw was Mayor making a mazy run down the left. He then crossed back from the by line. Three Preston players managed to miss the ball before Chris Robertson stuck out a left foot to direct the ball into the net.
Huddersfiled huffed and puffed but couldn't break down the Preston defence which has looked more solid in recent times. Mayor tormented the visitors and should have scored when he was through after beating several defenders only for his shot to be blocked by a defender.
Preston now are above the safety mark of 50 points with three games remaining. Westley will now turn his attention to next season and which players will be exiting the club.
