Simpson regrets Nash saga
04 Jun 2007 - 07:39:38
Preston North End boss Paul Simpson says he regrets the rumpus that saw goalkeeper Carlo Nash leave Deepdale in the January transfer window.
Simpson blames an agent, not Nash's, for the fallout, as rumoured interest from Fulham failed to materialise and the keeper headed off to Wigan Athletic on loan.
"What happened with Carlo was very disappointing," Simpson told the Lancashire Evening Post.
"Looking back I don't think it was necessary to do what was done. Unfortunately a big scandal came about because Carlo Nash had been given false information by someone.
"I don't actually believe it was his own agent who had given him the false information. I am not accusing him.
"But I think Carlo was given false information by some other agent and he got excited over it."
Meanwhile, Lilywhites chairman Derek Shaw has shed further light on the affair, rubbishing talk of a £500,000 approach from the Cottagers.
He told the club's official website: "Fulham never made that bid, they came in with £150,000 up front and then another £150,000 over a very long period of games.
"This club has never rejected a bid of £500,000 for Carlo Nash and it is important that everybody knows that."
