Simpson: Nugent stays

Preston North End boss Paul Simpson insists he has no intention of selling David Nugent before the transfer window closes on Thursday.

The England Under-21 striker's future has been the subject of much speculation in the past few months, with Everton, Sheffield United and Middlesbrough among the top-flight clubs rumoured to be interested in signing him.

However, Simpson said: "David is still a Preston North End player, I want him to be for a very long time and hopefully he will be after Thursday.

"I don't know if the speculation is affecting him, but if it has then hopefully, after Thursday, the next time he pulls a Preston shirt on he can get on with playing football."

The Lilywhites manager added: "I'm looking to add to the squad and I need another striker and a leader to help my young players."
