Preston failed to sparkle on bonfire weekend but they managed to overcome Yeovil in the FA Cup First Round tie at Deepdale.
Westley appears to be settling down with his team selections as the only change was Joel Byrom who came into the centre midfield to replace the suspended Welsh. Michael Keane took the captain's armband.
Preston were slow into the game and should have been at least two down before they took the lead. Yeovil had two perfect chances on the break. The first was an opportunity where they flashed wide from a good position and the second time they hit the target only for Simonsen to make a good save.
The game would have been different had Yeovil been two up after half an hour and it would have been debateable as to whetehr Preston would still have scored three goals but Yeovil will rue the missed early chances.
Indeed they say you have to tkae your chances and that is exactly what Preston did with their first meaningful attack. Byrom was placed clean through and slotted through the keeper's legs to put Preston one up.
Moments later Amoo who was on as a sub for Sherrif who went off with a hamstring injury was also put clean through. The winger managed to round the keeper before slotting home. The match hadn't reached half time and already Yeovil were looking down the barrel.
The visitors wree then reduced to ten men when Upson went in with a lunging tackle on Byrom. It seemed that both feet may have been raised off the ground but in any event it was a reckless challenge which saw a straight leg.
North End soon took advantage over their man count as Robertson headed in from a corner to make it three nil. Preston then failed to push on with their only other chance being a Robertson header which hit the post although the defender was offside.
Preston will be thankful for the wasteful finishing of their visitors because on another day the home side may well have found themselves on the end of a First Round defeat.
