Preston North End boss Darren Ferguson bolstered his midfield options with the double capture of Keith Treacy and Paul Coutts on transfer deadline day.

Treacy, 21, joined the Championship club from Blackburn Rovers on a permanent basis for an undisclosed fee.

Meanwhile, Ferguson raided former club Peterborough United to sign Coutts just minutes before the transfer window slammed shut.

Speaking about Treacy, Ferguson told the club's official website: "The lad's going to be a work in progress, we've still got a lot of work to do with him but we've bought a player with a lot of potential.

"He can play either side, he could even play through the middle or off the front. He is just a naturally gifted footballer.

"One of the bonuses of bringing him in is that he can play either side, but he's only a kid, only a young one, I think we need some more young ones at the club, plenty to work with and that's the kind of player I am looking at."
