Preston admit Ferguson interest

Preston North End chairman Derek Shaw has admitted that Darren Ferguson has registered on his club's radar as they search for a new manager.

The Lilywhites sacked Alan Irvine on Tuesday after two years in the Deepdale hot-seat and Shaw has revealed that they have already been inundated with applications for the job.

However, reported front-runner Ferguson - who left Peterborough United in November - is interesting Shaw and the Preston board.

"Darren Ferguson did a fantastic job at Peterborough so he's obviously in the frame," he confirmed.

"We'd be foolish not to consider him but there are several quality candidates out there and we've not spoken to anybody just yet.

"We'll look at all our options very carefully and then go through the formal application and interview process.

"There's a few experienced managers out of work at the moment and there's one or two up and coming managers that we know about as well."
