Preston Boss Bournemouth
Published : 18 Feb 2013 13:27:09
It has been a change in fortunes for North End who secured their first home league victory for five months against table toppers BBournemouth.
The week ended well for Preston after all the drama of midweek. John Dreyer sent out a strong side for possibly his one and only game as manager.
Keane was back in the side as was Huntington and Buchanan at left back. Welsh partnered Wroe in midfield whilst King played just off Beavon much akin to earlier in the season when Preston enjoyed a good run.
It was a team transformed. Buchanan was allowed to play like a Leaggue One player of the year. Huntington showed why he was a commanding centre back and Beavon proved why he was the only person int he team we spent some money on.
Bournemouth were the league leaders but let's not kid ourselves, this league is very very poor. They may have played poorly and North End well but this was Preston's day from the start. The visitors rarely troubled Rudd in the home goal.
It helped that Preston scored an early goal with Beavon curling home from the edge of the box. Soon after Bailey Wright stabbed home from close range to double the lead. Preston dominated throughout and sub Monakana should have made it three but curled wide after a jinking run.
This performance shows that the common denominator stopping the team for whatever reason was Graham Westley. Whether it was the tactics or the alleged fallings out we will never no.
What is clear is that Preston, on their day, can defeat anyone in this division. The problem now is that the team are too far behind to mount an assault but consistency until the end of the season under new management will bode well for next season.
