Positive New Beginnings For Preston

Graham Westley has to turn round a fair few Preston supporters after the debacle at the end of last season but he started off in the best way possible.

Preston fielded an almost unrecognisable team against Huddresfield compared with last season with only Stuckmann being the only player int he starting line up who featured last season.

Laird and Keane played as full backs with Sherriff and Huntingdon as the centre back pairing. Captain Mouisnho played alongside Wroe in midfield whils Monakana played on the right with Holmes on the left. The line up was complete with Beardsley and King up front.

Preston looked comfortable on the ball and dispelled the myth that they were a long ball side with some nice crisp passing on the glorious Deepdale surface. They also showed that they were hard to beat with Huddersfield limited in their chances.

The Whites took the lead in the first half when an impressive Monakana crossed from the right for King to head home with a looping finish over the keeper.

The lead was soon doubled after a neat move saw Beardsley cross the ball aacross the box for Wroe to tap in from an unmissable position. Preston looked good for their lead.

Huddersfield came back into the game in the second half with Preston becoming sloppy and Stuckmann was forced into action but the defence held firm.

Preston could have furthered their lead when substitue Amoo showed his lightening pace but his cross flashed across the face of the goal with no one in the middle to convert.

Westley will be satisfied with the opening performance as Preston go through to the League Cup 2nd Round draw but more importantly confidence should be building ahead of Saturday's league opener.
