Parkin pleased to join Preston
30 Aug 2008 - 14:24:24
Striker Jon Parkin is looking to win promotion with Preston North End this season after completing his switch to Deepdale from Stoke City.
The burly 26-year-old has been snapped up by Alan Irvine on an initial loan deal before making the switch permanent on Monday.
The former Barnsley, York City, Macclesfield Town and Hull City player told Preston's official website: "Obviously I'm delighted with the move.
"I spoke to the manager on Thursday night and he sold the club to me, so I'm really looking forward to getting started.
"Once the manager had told me what he wanted to do here, the decision was pretty easy. I enjoyed gaining promotion last year, and there's every chance I can do it again here this year.
"I had a chance to go to a club down south, but Preston appealed to me much more on a massive scale.
"Everything is geared up for a Premier League football club here. Preston have got off to a fantastic start this season and hopefully that can carry on.
"People will obviously know about my size, but I like to think that I'm more than just a big lad and I've got two pretty good feet. I'm looking forward to working with the lads and getting started."
Parkin scored six times in 12 starts and 27 substitute appearances for the Potters during his spell at the Britannia Stadium.
