Ormerod set for surgery

Preston North End striker Brett Ormerod will undergo surgery this summer but boss Paul Simpson is confident he will be fit enough to take part in pre-season training which starts in just six weeks' time.

The former Southampton star is having a metal plate removed from his right leg, 12 months after it was put in to repair a broken bone.

Simpson told the Lancashire Evening Post: "It was always planned that Brett would have the plate removed this summer, so that's not a major issue.

"We expect he'll be ready to join in when the squad returns for pre-season training."
