Preston North End chairman Derek Shaw has admitted that the Championship club had no intention of letting star striker David Nugent leave the club before the transfer window slammed shut.
The 21-year-old had been linked with a number of top-flight clubs, but Shaw says that no serious offer was fielded by the Lilywhites.
He told the club's official website: "We have known for quite a long time that we had no intention of letting David Nugent go.
"Thankfully, we did not receive a ridiculous offer that would have forced the board and I to strongly consider accepting.
"There were various conversations which were had about other things and he was thrown in at the end, but there was never anything 100 per cent concrete.
"There were one or two cheeky offers, but certainly nothing that would tempt us to let David go."
Nugent joined Preston in January 2005 from Bury and has scored 20 goals in 55 league outings for the Deepdale club.
