Preston North End expect Craig Beattie to be missing for a significant period after the on-loan striker damaged a hamstring on his debut.

Beattie lasted just 38 minutes of Tuesday's 1-0 win at Leicester City before pulling up with a hamstring problem and manager Alan Irvine expects him to be missing for a prolonged period.

"At the moment we have to wait for the bleeding to settle down," he told the club's official website.

"We can't scan it until it has done that, but the scan is scheduled for Monday.

"However, it (his absence) is looking like being weeks rather than days."

Meanwhile, Beattie's injury is set to scupper a loan move for Brett Ormerod.

The out-of-favour striker was set to join League Two side Morecambe, but now seems certain to remain at Deepdale.
