North End move for Jones

Preston North End have made their first signing of the summer after landing highly-rated Crewe youngster Billy Jones.

Jones, 20, has agreed a four-year contract with the Lilywhites and will move to Deepdale when his contract expires on July 1.

The amount Preston will pay for the versatile defender or midfielder looks set to be decided by a tribunal as the two clubs have yet to agree a fee.

"It's very pleasing because he's had a lot of other enquiries including some from Premiership clubs in the past, particularly in January," North End boss Paul Simpson told the club's official website.

"He's only 20-years-old and he's played over 140 games at first-team level so he's got games under his belt.

"But I think he looks at this as a place he can come develop into an even stronger player."
