Preston North End manager Alan Irvine has revealed he would be interested in bringing David Nugent back to the club.
The England striker has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League since a £6million move to Portsmouth from Deepdale last summer.
Nugent has yet to find the net in his four league appearances for the south coast club.
The 22-year-old's lack of action at Fratton Park has led to speculation that he would be allowed to leave on loan and Irvine has admitted he would be interested in luring him back to Preston.
"If it became apparent that he was going to be available then we would have to find out a little bit more about it," he told the Lancashire Evening Post.
"Obviously, David may not be available or he might not want to go out on loan. He may prefer to stay and fight for his place at Portsmouth.
"Or maybe he has his own preferences where he would like to go on loan. But it would be an interesting one."
