Preston North End goalkeeper Andy Lonergan has committed his long-term future to the club by signing a new contract that will keep him at Deepdale until the end of the 2012-13 campaign. The news of the 25-year-old's decision has delighted Lilywhites boss Alan Irvine. He told the club's official website: "It's absolutely terrific. I think everybody knows that he's been in fantastic form, all the way through last season and certainly the start of this season. "He's a very important player for us so I'm absolutely delighted. He's probably one of the best goalkeepers in our division and is a player who's continuing to get better. "I certainly think that his best is yet to come. Goalkeepers get better with age, you can see how many goalkeepers play well into their 30s. "He's an athletic lad and I wouldn't imagine he'd have a weight problem at any time."
