Nash stance annoys Simpson

Preston North End boss Paul Simpson has slammed Carlo Nash after the goalkeeper pleaded with the club to allow him to move to Fulham before the transfer window shuts next Wednesday.

The 33-year-old insists he only wants to leave Deepdale and move to the capital so that he can be with his fiancee, but Simpson is unimpressed.

"No bid has been placed for us to turn down," he blasted. "We won't be held to ransom.

"Carlo is contracted with us until June 2008 and, unless an offer is made that's acceptable, we hope he'll be professional enough to see out his contract at Deepdale."

The Cottagers are reported to have offered £500,000 for Nash as they seek cover for first-choice shot-stopper Antti Niemi.
