Movin' On Up

Preston completed their third victory in a row against promotion chasing Swansea which sees the Whites move off the bottom of the table for the first time since before Christmas. Phil Brown was adamant that once one victory was obtaine then more would follow and at present his theory seems to be accurate as Preston beat high flying Swansea following wins against Scunthorpe and Coventry. The Whites started out in a 4-5-1 formation to stifle Swansea who are probably the best passing side in the division. Hume started up front on his won with the new South African making his debut at the back. Preston soon took the lead thanks to a through ball which saw Billy Jones bearing down on goal. As he tried to square the ball he was pulled down by the keeper who was subsequently booked and a penalty awarded. HUme dispatched the penalty to give North End the lead. The home side watched the visitors try to attack from deep with their intricate passing but it was Preston who should have extended their lead. Both Eddie Johnson and Keith Treacy had one on on opprotunities. The former had a shot saved whist the latter blasted over. Swansea levelled on the half hour as Preston failed to clear a set piece and Williams converted from close range. The home side then went to two up front with Jonhnson joining Hume in attack. Preston kept the pressure up with Carter hitting the bar but Swansea also hit the woodwork. Hume went close dragging wide in the second half as Preston pressed forward. It was a solo effort that sealed the game from man of the moment Hume. The frontman twisted and turned round two deenders before drilling the ball past the keeper. It is three in a row and Preston's best run of the season but they still have a difficult task ahead of them. The Whites have now moved off the foot of the table and will go to Reading on Tuesday for their game in hand in buoyant mood.
