Preston defender Tyrone Mears will not play again this season after suffering a stress fracture of his shin during the defeat at Coventry City.
The 21-year-old former Manchester City player had to be substituted in the first half of the 4-1 loss.
"It is a big blow to Tyrone and to ourselves," Preston boss Craig Brown told the club's official website.
"He has done very well in recent weeks and this will unfortunately rule him out for the rest of the season."
