Preston North End goalkeeper Andy Lonergan has penned a deal that will keep him at Deepdale until June 2012.
The 23-year-old has been a regular on Preston's substitute's bench this term but is one for the future, according to boss Paul Simpson.
"He is a very good young goalkeeper who has still got a hell of a lot of football to play and I am just delighted that he will be playing it here," the former Rochdale and Carlisle United boss told the club's official website.
"He has shown what a quality keeper he is and is pushing Carlo Nash very close for the starting place.
"We were desperate to keep hold of him because we know how hard it is to find good quality young goalkeepers and in Andy we have definitely got that."
