    Lengthy absence for Nicholson

    24 Aug 2009 - 12:06:25

Preston North End midfielder Barry Nicholson faces up to six months on the sidelines after breaking his leg during the 2-0 win against Peterborough United.

The former Aberdeen player will have surgery on Thursday but boss Alan Irvine has said that the break could have been worse.

He said: Barry's broken both bones in his leg, the main one low down and the smaller one higher up. That's a massive blow for him and it's a big disappointment for us.

"It's not the worst break that you can have, it's not been displaced. Obviously it wasn't a compound fracture and that's good news in itself.

"They're leaving it very open at the moment, they're saying three to six months.

"Three months we'd be delighted, six months we'd be disappointed. We'll have a better idea once the operation has been done and once we know how he's reacting to that."
