Irvine upbeat despite draw
09 May 2009 - 12:34:10
Preston North End boss Alan Irvine believes his side still have 'every opportunity' of reaching the play-off final despite Friday's semi-final first leg draw with Sheffield United.
Sean St Ledger's first-half opener for the Lilywhites was cancelled out by a Brian Howard strike after half-time.
But despite failing to take full advantage of their home leg, Irvine remains upbeat about Preston's chances of reaching Wembley.
"We've had some excellent results at some difficult venues this season," said Irvine.
"There's no doubt that if we play well enough at Bramall Lane we can win - and if we don't, we won't win. We're still very much in this.
"Obviously it would be nice to be going there with a lead, but it's not like a European game where away goals count double and you're going to an unusual venue.
"We know Bramall Lane and we know what's going to be happening there. We know how tough it's going to be."
