Irvine swoops for Brown

Preston North End manager Alan Irvine has bolstered his squad by capturing Hull City defender Wayne Brown on an initial one-month loan deal.

The 31-year-old arrives at Deepdale to provide cover for the injured Callum Davidson, Michael Hart, Neal Trotman, Liam Chilvers and Sean St Ledger.

Brown started his career with Ipswich Town and also had spells with Colchester United, QPR, Wimbledon, Watford and Gillingham before joining Hull in the summer of 2007 for £450,000.

Meanwhile, Neil Mellor has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2011-12 campaign.
