Irvine still in positive mood

The 1-0 defeat at in-form Cardiff on Saturday saw the Lilywhites slip to 14th position, a drop of 11 places in just over two months. North End have now won just once in their past 10 games but are still only four points adrift of Middlesbrough, who occupy the last play-off place, going into their clash against Derby on Tuesday night. Irvine told the Lancashire Evening Post: "I don't know if people expect us to win these games but we certainly need to make sure we do our work and preparation properly." He added: "I think we can still win games in this division. When we are at our best we can beat anybody. "But the nature of the Championship is that it is extremely difficult to win games and you have to be playing well."
