Irvine praises Mellor return
16 May 2008 - 11:35:29
Preston North End boss Alan Irvine is hoping that striker Neil Mellor can carry his fine end-of-season form on next term.
The 25-year-old scored five times in the last six games of the season just ended, having finally overcome a number of injury problems to force his way into Irvine's staring line-up.
Irvine told the Lancashire Evening Post: "I think Neil Mellor has shown that there are goals there, without any question. He is a natural finisher.
"Most of his goals have come since January and at first a lot of them were off the bench.
"But the good thing is he is now scoring when starting games, which is good.
"Neil, of all the players, was probably the one who was wishing the season hadn't ended when it did because he was on a nice little run."
