Irvine plans Williamson appeal
27 Apr 2009 - 14:57:19
Preston North End plan to appeal against Lee Williamson's red card in Saturday's 2-1 win at Birmingham City.
The 26-year-old was sent off following a tussle with City's Lee Bowyer. Birmingham have already confirmed that they will contest Bowyer's dismissal.
North End boss Alan Irvine told the Lancashire Evening Post: "I don't think Lee did an awful lot wrong. I hope that referee Phil Dowd will be able to have a look at it and make a decision about whether it should be rescinded.
"Having had a look at it myself I'd expect we'll be appealing. The two lads had their foreheads together and maybe that's what the referee claims.
"But I don't think there were head-butts from either player to be perfectly honest.
"I think it was probably two yellow cards. Unfortunately, Lee Bowyer had already had a yellow card so I don't know whether that made any difference to the outcome."
