Ferguson remaining upbeat

Preston manager Darren Ferguson believes his beleaguered team can still beat the npower Championship drop. The Deepdale outfit go into the New Year propping up the table having lost their final clash of the year, a 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Middlesbrough.Ferguson's men have just won five of their 22 outings so far this campaign and the 38-year-old admits life in charge of the Lancashire club is difficult. But he retains hope they can avoid dropping into League One next season, telling the Lancashire Evening Post: "This has been a difficult period for the club and a difficult period in my young management career. We haven't done near enough as well as I thought we could do and as manager I have to take responsibility."There haven't been enough wins. If someone said they no longer wanted me here, I couldn't really have any complaints because we were bottom of the league. But I believe in what I'm doing at the club from top to bottom."I still think we will get out of trouble, although at the moment I don't think that many people would agree with me - the fans aren't happy. But the players are giving me their all, I can see that."
