Ferguson eyes Ward signing

Preston North End manager Darren Ferguson is hopeful of turning defender Elliott Ward's loan from Coventry City into a permanent deal.

The 25-year-old was an unused sub for the 2-0 loss at Middlesbrough, with Ward a free agent in the summer as his Sky Blues contract runs out.

Ferguson told the Lancashire Telegraph: "I've liked Elliott for a while, he played well for Doncaster Rovers against us a couple of weeks ago when he was on loan there.

"He fits the criteria of what I want - he's really competitive, a good size, comfortable on the ball and good in the air.

"I am looking at Elliott in terms of next season and that's no slight on the other centre-halves at the club."
