Deepdale switch for Carroll

Preston North End manager Paul Simpson has snapped up the Newcastle United teenager Andy Carroll on a six-month loan deal. The 18-year-old is looking forward to his spell at Deepdale after rejecting the chance to sign temporary deals with several other clubs. "I was given a few clubs to choose from but, when I was looking at them, Preston looked like the right move so I got straight on the phone to Paul (Simpson) and sorted it out," Carroll told North End's official website. "They seemed like the right team for me and I thought that I'd fit in well. There's a few good players here and hopefully I can get on well with them." Carroll has made seven appearances from the substitute's bench for the Magpies.
