Ferguson, 37, was last week appointed as Alan Irvine's successor on a three-and-a-half year contract. He admitted he spoke to his father and Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who felt the Lancashire outfit would provide him with the ideal challenge. "He knows the club well and we both came to the agreement this was the right one for me," Ferguson said. "There were other options but we felt this was the best place for me."
