    Davidson struck by hamstring

    09 Sep 2009 - 15:55:42

Preston North End captain Callum Davidson faces a prolonged spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring tear while on international duty.

Davidson was forced out of Scotland's 2-0 win over Macedonia at Hampden Park on Saturday after just 14 minutes of play.

The Scottish left-back's injury was deemed severe after a scan with his lay-off likely to extend to months rather than weeks.

Manager Alan Irvine admitted it was a blow ahead of a busy period in the season, as the Lilywhites have seven matches to complete in 22 days starting with Saturday's meeting with Swansea.

"It is bitterly disappointing," Irvine told the club's official website. "I knew straight away it was a hamstring injury.

"I could tell by looking at him that it was not a small injury because he is a tough lad and would have kept going if it was something minor, so I feared the worst right from the start and unfortunately it is not good news."
