    Chilvers faces long lay-off

    10 Mar 2008 - 16:00:22

Preston North End manager Alan Irvine fears that Liam Chilvers may not play again this year after the defender suffered a suspected rupture of the Achilles tendon before Saturday's game against Charlton Athletic.

Chilvers sustained the injury in the pre-match warm-up and was forced to drop out of the starting eleven, being replaced by Billy Jones.

A distraught Irvine told the club's official website: "Nothing's been confirmed yet, but it looks like a bad injury.

"We fear that he's ruptured his Achilles tendon, which is a real shame for the lad because he's been so steady and solid for us.

"He's been a big part of what we've done in recent months, and I'm really disappointed for him because he deserved to keep playing on through to the end of the season."
