    Brown boost for North End

    22 Aug 2008 - 10:55:17

Preston North End have received a boost with the news that absent striker Chris Brown does not require surgery.

The Lilywhites have been without the frontman since midway through their pre-season programme, but manager Alan Irvine has revealed he is close to making his first-team comeback.

"Chris has been for a scan. He has got a sciatic problem and anyone who has had that will realise how uncomfortable that can be and how restrictive it is in terms of people's movement," he told the club's official website.

"The scan shows there is no need for any surgery, which is obviously great news.

"We are looking at the possibility of giving him an injection to settle it down and we are hoping that he'll be back in with the full squad very soon."
