Boss keen on Nugent stay

Preston North End manager Paul Simpson has reiterated his desire to keep star striker David Nugent at Deepdale.

The England Under-21 international has been linked with a move to a host of Premiership clubs in the January transfer window, but Simpson is determined to keep hold of his prize asset.

"I don't want Dave Nugent to go to the Premiership yet - except with us," Simpson told the Lancashire Evening Post.

"For me, Preston is the best place for him to learn to play and improve.

"I know he is enjoying it here and if he joined a Premier League club he could end up not playing regularly.

"It would do him more good to remain in his current environment, playing every week and honing his skills.

"He is only 21 and has a long time in the game ahead of him. Potentially he has every chance of making it at the highest level."
