Action delights Mears

Tyrone Mears is hoping to get some more first-team action under his belt before the end of the season after ending his 14-month absence from league football during Preston's 3-0 win against Cardiff.

The 22-year-old had been sidelined by a stress fracture of his leg and was delighted to make his first league appearance of the campaign as an 87th-minute substitute on Saturday.

"I was very pleased. It is great to get it over with. I didn't even expect to be on the bench, so it was good," he told the club's official website.

"It was good to hear the fans and be involved. It is psychological more than anything and I only got one touch, but hopefully I'll be able to get another chance soon.

"But it was a boost and you do feel a part of it."

Mears made his comeback from the injury as a late substitute in the FA Cup defeat by West Brom in January, but has since spent his time working on his fitness with the reserves.
