Graham Westley has been appointed as the new manager of Preston.

The npower League One club on Saturday confirmed the 43-year-old as successor to Phil Brown after agreeing a compensation package with Westley's previous employers Stevenage.

He will be joined at Deepdale by assistant John Dreyer and first-team coach Dino Maamria, having agreed rolling contracts to replace Brown who was sacked in mid-December following a goalless draw with Stevenage.

"It is a privilege to be handed the reins at this historic football club," Westley told www.pnefc.net.

"When you see images of men like Sir Tom Finney, Alan Kelly and Bill Shankly looking back at you from the stands at Deepdale, you get a very clear sense of the responsibilities that you are accepting.

"My job is to do my very best to re-ignite the club's on-field performance and in the first instance help the club to punch at its weight. We will take things on from there."
