Westley At It Again

It seems that controversy will cloud Graham Westley's reign even if he eventually proves himself to be a success at Deepdale.

The Daily Mail has revealed that Westley has sent a text message to eight players telling them not to bother returning to the club. The article is a little sensationalised but the text message is rather striking.

First of all I should point out that it is not unusal for Westley to text message his players before games as revealed last season although I can't exactly see Sir Alex up late on a Friday texting Wayne to say he is dropped.

It has always been clear that Westley wanted a clear out of his squad and it was obvious that an almost total clearout was set to take place over the summer. Seven players were transfer listed with that number now down to six with Tsoumou leaving earlier this week.

The message leaked to the Daily Mail stipulates that the tet is sent to eight players and advises the recipients that they are to follow a certain regime prior to pre-season and will be returning to training late and basically advised that if they do train then it will not be with the first team.

The message is in keeping with Westley's wholesale changes at the club but the curious thing is that the message was sent to eight players which seems one too many. Seven were transfer listed and it is assumed those seven received the message but the further player is unknown.

The Daily Mail has made a speculative guess that two of the players were Coutts and Hume but this would make little sense knowing that they were not transfer listed although may move on for a fee during the summer.
