Turner Prize For Preston Keeper

The Whites kept up their early season good form thanks to two goals in the last ten minutes which saw off a Notts County side who showed why this division will be a difficult one to get out of. Preston changed personnel and thier shape as McLaughlin and Myor started their first games of the season down the right hand side as Preston played a 4-4-2 formation. Chances were few and far between for both sides as McLean and Carlisle looked solid at the back with Notts County reduced to long range efforts which on another day may have troubled Preston keeper, Turner. The Whites couldn't break the visitors down despite Coutts having some dazzling runs in midfield. Hume came on in the second half as Preston went three up top looking for the victory. The game looked like it was meandering for a draw until a right wing corner was met by McLean who beat his marker to power home a header for his first goal for the club with five minutes remaing. Brown looked to tighten things up when Iain Turner made a routine clearance with a punt down field out of his hands. Mellor tangled with the centre back and it looked as if he may get trhough on goal. THe visiting keeper concerned by Mellor came rusihng out and misjudged the bounce of the ball which flew over his outstrecthed hand into the bac of the net. It was the first time a keeper had scored for Preston since LOnergan away at Leicester. For Turner it was his first and may well be his last goal at a professional level. Brown now takes his charges into the international break with ten points targeting another home win against Yeovil on a Friday night to keep the pressure on the early pacesetters.
