Testimonial Turns Sour

For the second Saturday in succession Preston lost a pre-season match by 4 goals although this one was abitterly disappointing for all concerned.

Fleetwood were always going to be tough opposition spending big for their division and hoping for promotion after only one season in the Football League.

The match became a non-entity after half an hour and there was only one man to blame. The home side had taken an early lead before Joe Garner decided to kick out at Schumacher thus effectively ending the contest as a spectacle.

The referee applied the law literally and sent off Garner for his petulance. He will now be suspended for the friendly against Blackburn. There is some argument as to whether Garner should have been substituted but that is a moot point given that he should not have lashed out in the first place.

Preston then toiled for an hour in the heat conceding three further goals which became only an exercise of how fit ten men really are at this point in the pre-season programme. Grayson will have learned little except that Garner is prone to snapping and will hope for better against Blackburn.
