Saints take PNE's Trotman on loan
The centre-back, 22, missed most of last season with a hernia problem and North End boss Alan Irvine is keen for him to gain regular first-team experience.
Trotman's solitary appearance for Preston this season came against Morecambe in the Carling Cup when he came on as a substitute and scoring within 10 seconds in a 5-1 win.
Before the start of the campaign, Trotman rejected the chance to join Millwall on loan, saying he wanted to stay at Deepdale and fight for his place.
Trotman could be involved when Saints play host to Brentford on Saturday.
