Welsh worry for North End

Preston are awaiting the verdict on captain John Welsh's knee injury ahead of the Walsall game.

The central midfielder underwent a precautionary scan on Tuesday afternoon for an injury which has kept him out of North End's last two games.

Simon Grayson's men drew 3-3 with Rotherham in midweek - a game which defender Scott Wiseman did not finish after taking a late knock. He will also be assessed.

Grayson has no other injury worries but could consider changes for the third game in eight days, Josh Brownhill and Jack King amongst those who are likely to come into the manager's thinking.

Walsall's Andy Taylor faces a fitness test as the midlands club look to get back to winning ways.

The defender is back in training having been sidelined since mid-January with a knee injury, but it remains to be seen whether the clash at Deepdale comes too soon.

Dean Holden remains unavailable due to his knee problem, although the veteran defender has not featured at all this season.

Boss Dean Smith has no new injury or suspension concerns as the promotion-chasing Saddlers look to end a four-match winless run.
