Alan Browne banned as Preston welcome Newcastle

Alan Browne begins a suspension for Preston but boss Simon Grayson will have three men back for Newcastle's visit to Deepdale.

Midfielder Browne incurred a three-match ban when he was dismissed during North End's 6-0 drubbing by the Magpies on Tuesday night.

Marnick Vermijl and Alex Baptiste are available for this Sky Bet Championship fixture having been cup-tied while Aiden McGeady (hamstring) is also set to return.

Grayson is still unable to call on John Welsh (calf), Stevie May and Calum Woods (both knee).

Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez is likely to turn to his big guns once again after making seven changes for Tuesday night's EFL Cup rout.

Karl Darlow, Jamaal Lascelles, Ciaran Clark, Jonjo Shelvey, Yoan Gouffran, Ayoze Perez and Dwight Gayle were all rested - Shelvey and Perez were used as substitutes - and will be eager to return as the Magpies attempt to cement their place at the top of the table.

Midfielder Jack Colback is being assessed after being taken to hospital as a result of the head injury he suffered in the collision which earned Browne his red card at St James' Park.

Jesus Gamez and Daryl Murphy both missed out with calf problems, as did Achraf Lazaar with an unspecified knock in midweek, while keeper Rob Elliot hopes to return to full training next month and Massadio Haidara continued his quest for full match fitness, both after knee injuries.
