Stevie May and Eoin Doyle set for Preston bows against Derby

Stevie May and Eoin Doyle will come into contention for their Preston debuts against Derby at Deepdale.

The forward pair were recruited by Simon Grayson in deadline-day deals after it emerged Jermaine Beckford would need surgery on a knee problem that will now keep him out for a few months.

Young striker Jordan Hugill and winger Kyel Reid both sustained knocks to their knees in a Lancashire Senior Cup game earlier this week and have been ruled out by Grayson.

However, full-back Greg Cunningham has used the international break to recover from a hamstring issue, so he could come in for Calum Woods.

Derby will be without George Thorne after he suffered a slight tear in a calf muscle during the 2-1 home defeat to Leeds prior to the international break.

He will also probably miss the trip to Reading on Tuesday and joins fellow midfielder Craig Bryson, who has yet to recover from the knee injury he sustained on the opening day of the season, on the sidelines.

However, Rams head coach Paul Clement has cover in the middle of the park after signing Jacob Butterfield from Huddersfield and Bradley Johnson from Norwich ahead of last week's transfer deadline. Both players will be in contention to make their debuts for the club.

Forward Simon Dawkins may return from international duty with Jamaica too late to be involved while defender Jake Buxton continues to edge nearer a first-team return following back surgery in March.
