Westley hopeful of Welsh's return

Preston manager Graham Westley hopes to welcome John Welsh back into his

midfield for the visit of Carlisle in npower League One.

Welsh served a one-match ban having collected five yellow cards when the

Lilywhites dispatched Yeovil 3-0 in the first round of the FA Cup on Saturday,

but Westley suggested the break came at an opportune time as the former Tranmere

skipper was carrying a minor knock.

North End club captain John Mousinho is set to miss out once more but will

target Saturday's trip to former club Stevenage on Saturday as a comeback date

following a debilitating bout of mumps.

Ex-Southampton winger Lee Holmes came off the bench on Saturday to make his

first appearance since suffering a gashed knee in August and is pushing for

inclusion once more.

Lee Trundle, 36, remains unavailable but the forward hopes to return to full

training next week following knee surgery.

Carlisle will be without Paul Thirlwell and teenager Mark Beck again, while

Chris Chantler and Matty Robson are both doubtful.

Midfielder Thirlwell sat out Saturday's FA Cup win over Ebbsfleet due to an

ankle injury, while striker Mark Beck also missed out after breaking his finger

at home on Friday night.

Fellow midfielder Chantler is struggling with a heel problem which forced him

off late in the game at the weekend and winger Robson is hoping to return after

having an injection to aid his recovery from injury.

Defender Peter Murphy shook off a hamstring strain to play in an unaccustomed

holding midfield role against Ebbsfleet, but manager Greg Abbott must wait and

see if Danny Livesey is fit enough to play after sustaining a hand injury on

Saturday.

Winger Jon-Paul McGovern is pushing for a recall to the starting line-up after

returning from a groin injury to make his first appearance in seven matches at

the weekend.
